Youth Ministries

May our sons flourish in their youth
like well-nurtured plants.
May our daughters be like graceful pillars,
carved to beautify a palace. – Psalm 144:12

2020 Report

At the beginning of 2020, the High School class embarked on a year with a focus on outreach. In January 2020, the class raised $360.00 to feed Eva’s Shelter for one day. In February 2020, we sent an oversized Happy 100th Birthday card and musical video greeting to a local veteran who was seeking 100 cards for his 100th birthday. Incidentally, he received 90,000 cards and we were pleased to share greetings and messages of thanks to our neighbor. In March 2020 we began to raise funds to purchase essentials for another local youth shelter by starting an Underwear Drive (you may remember the slightly awkward flyers around the church 😊 ). Unfortunately, we were not able to complete this project during the pandemic.

We were, however, able to complete one particular project in October 2020 when we registered a team to walk in The Journey to Conquer Cancer sponsored by the Princess Margaret Hospital. We had a small team sign up to walk 5 km and fundraise. Our team goal was $1,000.00 and we were able to raise a total of $1,769.50. As our dear Marva said: “Praise God from whom all blessings flow!” Yes indeed!

During this time, our tech skills have improved significantly and allowed us to put together a few things. First, in April 2020 for Easter, the Youth made an original audio drama called “Malchus”, with each part recorded separately and stitched together to make a great story. If you haven’t heard it, find it on our website and enjoy it. The Youth have also taken two full Sabbath programs with Virtual Youth Day in May 2020 and Virtual Christmas at Willowdale in December 2020. We even recorded two High School choir songs in the parking lot of the church – socially distant of course – before the second lockdown.

In addition to this, the High School class continues to meet for virtual Sabbath School every Sabbath morning and in November 2020 started meeting bi-weekly for virtual Friday vespers.

Like all of you, the Youth are praying to be in fellowship with each other and the rest of the church in 2021.
