Pastor’s Corner: Preparing for Christ as for a Snow Storm

This week felt like spring. The temperature rose above zero, the snow began to melt, and I felt relief as if winter were finally loosening its grip.

Then suddenly, a snowstorm warning was announced. The news sent alerts, schools began discussing closures, workplaces prepared to move online, and city crews rushed to load salt and rock chips into their trucks. Snowplows stood ready before a single snowflake had fallen, and families brought out their shovels in anticipation of what was coming. No one waits until the storm arrives to prepare for it.

And it made me wonder: if we prepare this carefully for a temporary winter storm, how are we preparing for the Second Coming of Christ?

Jesus told us His return would come unexpectedly, yet He also called His people to live watchfully. We adjust our schedules for a storm that may last a few days, but are we adjusting our lives for a kingdom that will last forever? We prepare our homes so we are not caught off guard by snow, but are we preparing our hearts so we are not spiritually unready when Christ returns?

The snowstorm will come whether someone believes the forecast or not. In the same way, Christ’s return does not depend on human awareness or opinion—it rests on God’s promise. The real question is not whether He is coming, but whether we are living ready. Readiness is not fear or last-minute panic; it is daily faithfulness. It is a life shaped by prayer, grounded in Scripture, and softened by repentance and love.

So, as we’ve seen the snow fall this week and hear the plows working through the night, may it remind us of a deeper preparation. Faith is not scrambling when the storm arrives; faith is quiet readiness long before it does.

“Therefore, you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Matthew 24:44).

May we be a people not only aware of His coming, but faithfully prepared to meet Him.
