Disclosure: The nature of ongoing employment within ADRA Canada is dependent on financial contributions from its support base. It is to be recognized that the level of financial support is of a fluctuating nature.

Position Purpose

Key Responsibilities

This Role:

  • Perform the labor necessary to maintain all mechanical, electrical, heating, and plumbing systems in good repair and fully functional.
  • Painting, pressure washing, and sealing of buildings and outdoor areas
    May be required to serve as foreman when conditions warrant hiring a crew or contractors.
  • Responsible for keeping all maintenance rooms clean and orderly.
  • Responsible for submitting purchase requests for needed spare parts and tools.
  • May be necessary to work a non-regular schedule to maintain and verify all systems functioning.
  • Submit regular reports concerning needed maintenance.
  • Prepare and carry out a preventative maintenance plan.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Competency

Essential

  1. A minimum of two years of employment-based experience in facilities maintenance.
  2. High School Diploma or GED. Post-secondary education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
  3. A variety of technical maintenance skills to analyze, problem-solve, and repair a variety of equipment.
  4. Ability to plan, determine work priorities, schedule, supervise, and direct the work of contractors, if conditions warrant.
  5. High competency and a quick ability to learn new mechanical systems and adapt to a frequently changing environment.
  6. Ability to engage and communicate with people of various backgrounds and ages.
  7. Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work autonomously with initiative.
  8. Strong organizational skills and proven ability to meet multiple deadlines.
  9. Ability to travel locally, as required.
  10. Ability to deliver a high level of customer service.
  11. Ability to work within budgetary restraints.
  12. Willingness to participate in training programs.
  13. A citizen or permanent resident of Canada or the ability to legally work in Canada.

The obligations of ADRA Canada are as set out in the ADRA Canada Human Resources Manual and the applicable employment standards legislation and regulations, whichever obligations are greater. The employer will have no other obligations except as expressly set out in a written employment contract.

Performance Review: A Performance Review will typically be conducted after the first three months in the position. All employees will be required to participate in annual Performance Reviews.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to read, speak, and hear. Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Some standing, walking, bending, kneeling, carrying of light items, etc. required. Standard work hours, as defined by the ADRA Canada Human Resources Manual, are required.

Working Conditions: Essential responsibilities are performed either in the office or in traveling conditions.

  • Within the office, the work is primarily in a sedentary and comfortable environment, with tasks usually performed under normal office conditions with little or no noticeable discomfort. The work area is well lit and ventilated.
  • If traveling (international and/or domestic) there will be difficult conditions and challenging environments, particularly to destinations in the developing world.
