Pastor’s Corner: White as Snow on New Year’s Day

Pastor Glenn DeSilva

On this New Year’s morning—January 1, 2026—as I sit at the kitchen table working on a men’s ministries devotional and gazing out at the snow-covered lawn, my heart is drawn to the beautiful promise found in Isaiah: “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be like wool” (Isaiah 1:18). What a powerful reminder of God’s grace and His gift of new beginnings.

This coming Sabbath, January 3, we will begin the year together at Willowdale by reconsecrating our lives through the Communion Service. It will be a sacred opportunity to renew our commitment to Jesus our Saviour and our church’s mission—to Know Jesus and Make Jesus Known—by serving selflessly and sharing our faith with those God has placed within our circle of influence.

I would also like to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who planned, assisted, and served to make our New Year’s Eve service such a meaningful and memorable experience. For those who were unable to attend, the evening was filled with prayer, praise, and heartfelt testimonies. One especially meaningful moment was writing a sealed letter to our future selves, to be opened next New Year’s Eve—a quiet act of faith and reflection. For me, the highlight was closing the service with the lights dimmed, glow sticks raised, and our voices united as we sang the beloved praise song “Goodness of God.” Following the service, we enjoyed light refreshments and warm fellowship in the fellowship hall. As Michelle and I drove home, we reflected with gratitude on the precious memories and the joy of sharing that evening with our brothers and sisters in Christ.

As we step into this new year, let us remember that Jesus is coming again—very soon. We are called, as His followers, to prepare for that glorious day by serving with joy, living with purpose, and abiding daily in a life-transforming relationship with Jesus, the True Vine.

Maranatha
