A Nation in Mourning: Remembering Tumbler Ridge

This is a guest post from the Director of Personal Affairs and Religious Liberty Department of Willowdale.

“…. weep with those who weep” (Romans 12:15)

In these days of heavy silence, Canada stands as a nation in mourning following the tragic loss in Tumbler Ridge. The victims were mostly children—full of promise, imagination, and unguarded joy. Their absence leaves a space that cannot be filled.

All life, especially the lives of children, is dear to God’s heart—cherished beyond measure. In the gospel of Matthew 19:14, Jesus says, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

In a time often marked by division, it has been profoundly moving to witness political leaders from every side stand together in shared sorrow. Differences have given way to compassion. In mourning together, the country has remembered something deeper than debate—our common humanity. In the words of the apostle Paul, we are called to “….weep with those who weep” (Romans 12:15).
